A Surprising Truth I Discovered in the Chaos

October has been relentless. As a business leader, podcast host, wife and a mom, I’ve often juggled multiple roles, but this month tested my capacity on every front. From traveling to Denver for Women Lead Live, an empowering event, to managing my daughter’s middle school visits and activities, and throwing a Halloween party for her—something I initially wished to avoid due to my own upcoming event—I found myself stretched thin. These experiences taught me valuable lessons on asking for help, leaning into community, and, perhaps most importantly, listening to my body.

Here are three pivotal lessons from October and the lessons they left me with.

The Power of Asking for Help

At the start of October, I attended Women Lead Live in Denver, a conference that brought together inspiring women with a focus on amplifying voices and strengthening connections. As I immersed myself in the event, I felt a strong sense of belonging and purpose. Yet, while surrounded by other women leaders, I couldn’t ignore the realization that my upcoming commitments were piling up. I had my daughter’s school search to manage, Halloween to prepare for, a bunch of lunches and evening engagements, and my own event on the horizon. I knew I couldn’t do it all, at least not alone.

Returning from Denver, I reflected on the importance of asking for help. For years, I’d handled my commitments mostly on my own, often seeing it as a marker of independence. But this October showed me that strength isn’t about shouldering every task; sometimes, it’s about allowing others to step in. From asking friends and my husband to help with small tasks to delegating responsibilities at work, I experienced a profound shift in my mindset. By learning to ask for support, I found a greater capacity to manage my roles effectively. This lesson would guide me through the rest of the month’s challenges.

Lesson Learned: Asking for Help Isn’t a Sign of Weakness—It’s a Path to Growth and a muscle I’m still strengthening.

Learning to seek assistance created a mental shift. Asking for help didn’t lessen my responsibility; instead, it gave me the bandwidth to truly excel in my roles. For anyone balancing leadership with personal demands, reaching out is not a concession but a strength that builds resilience.

Lesson 2: Leaning Into Community for Support

With Halloween approaching, my daughter pleaded for a party. In the past, I would’ve embraced the idea wholeheartedly, but given the busy month, I hesitated. My own event was just days away, and the additional planning felt like a mountain. Still, her excitement was contagious, and we went ahead.

However, the day after the Halloween party, my husband got a nasty cold that kept him in bed for 4 days, adding an unexpected strain on our household. I was already running on minimal energy, juggling multiple events and daily commitments, while my daughter was eager for her trick-or-treating plans and social activities. That’s when I truly saw the power of leaning into my community. I reached out to close friends—something that’s usually hard for me to do—and they stepped in wholeheartedly. They helped coordinate my daughter’s outings, assisted with event prep, and made it possible for me to meet my obligations without feeling overwhelmed.

Seeing this support in action reinforced a simple truth: life isn’t meant to be tackled alone. This week taught me that leaning into my network—whether for practical help or emotional support—creates a powerful safety net. By allowing others to pitch in, I realized how much easier it is to manage even the toughest challenges and, more than that, to find real joy amid life’s busiest moments.

Lesson Learned: Community Isn’t Just Nice to Have—It’s Essential

Building a supportive network is crucial. I learned that my community doesn’t just empower me; it enhances the lives of everyone involved. For leaders, it’s easy to assume that we need to bear our responsibilities solo, but sharing the load enables us to approach our tasks with renewed energy and perspective.

Lesson 3: Listening to My Body’s Signals

As the Halloween party wrapped up and my event ia getting closer, I realized just how much the month had taken out of me. My body was sending unmistakable signs of exhaustion: tension headaches, monthly cycle, lack of sleep and a persistent need to rest. Yet, I had commitments lined up, including a networking lunch I was eager to attend. However, by Thursday, I understood that pushing through wasn’t an option; it was a risk. Ignoring my body’s signals would only lead to burnout.

So, for the first time in a long while, I canceled the lunch purely to give myself space to rest. I went home, let my body recharge, and reflected on how vital it is to honor our physical and mental needs. Listening to my body isn’t just a form of self-care; it’s foundational to sustaining long-term success. This experience reminded me that true productivity comes from balance, not relentless pursuit.

Lesson Learned: Our Bodies Are Our Best Guides—When We Listen

As leaders and parents, we’re often trained to keep going, but sometimes, the most effective action we can take is to step back. By tuning in to my body, I found the clarity and energy I needed to finish the week strong. For anyone balancing multiple demands, listening to your body is an essential skill that preserves both well-being and performance.

Reflecting on October, I feel grateful for the lessons embedded within each experience. Learning to ask for help showed me that independence is not about doing everything alone but knowing when to reach out.

Leaning into my community allowed me to tackle challenges with more joy, reminding me of the importance of connection.

And listening to my body reinforced that our physical needs are not obstacles but essential markers guiding us toward balance.

As I prepare for my event, I carry these lessons forward, feeling more equipped and resilient. October may have been relentless, but it revealed that success isn’t about juggling endless tasks; it’s about prioritizing well-being, asking for support, and valuing the power of community.

In a world that often glorifies self-reliance, and business this October taught me that true strength lies in interdependence, self-care, and listening to ourselves.

As we head into November, I hope these lessons inspire you to embrace help, lean into your community, and trust your body’s wisdom.

To your success and abundance!
